About Me
I have lived in Wyton for about 18 years, having previously lived in (chronologically backwards) St. Ives, Needingworth, Huntingdon and, up to the age of 18, London - hence my inane sense of humour.
I have to say that if I could ever choose a place to spend the rest of my life, I’ve found it!
There is controversy about at the mo’ about the insularity of people’s neighbourhoods, but I find Houghton and Wyton people to be unbelievably friendly - well, most of them.
All places have their oddballs, but, in general, if you go down the street, everyone will say a cheery hello.
I also have to say that I have never really “got” the pronunciation of Houghton and why people get so upset about it. Is it Howton or Hoeton? Houghton purists will give you a black look if you pronounce it anything other than Hoeton - in fact I have even been corrected in the street. I prefer Howton and will continue to use that pronunciation since, let’s face it, what does it matter? and it slips off my still-slightly-London-accented-tongue easier
I’m sure the people of Hougton-Le-Spring and Houghton Mifflin don’t worry worry if someone is having a bad-pronunciation day, so why should we?
